Conducting a benchmarking examination of analytical tools for client

One of the Midwest’s biggest nonprofit food banks located in 4 states, serves over 35,000 meals a week and operates direct distribution programs. The organization contracted Intone to conduct a benchmarking examination of analytical tools to develop and implement a data analytics strategy which ensures the consistent production of quality data and the ability to provide for innovative data analytics including visualization concepts and a custom-designed data storage solution.

Our client embarked on an aggressive benchmarking examination of internal operating effectiveness to assess their efficiency in delivering services to the communities they serve. These efforts were initiated to completely assess internal operational and delivery requirements and to provide for the needed analytics to more fully comprehend and transform their business operations.  The organization wanted the ability to quickly identify their metrics in these key areas:

  • To ensure service delivery to their consumers in need;
  • Enable the underprivileged in taking part in the food bank programs;
  • Provide responsive service delivery mechanisms;
  • Increase the efficiency of partnerships in delivering services;
  • Transparency in funds expenditure;
  • Rate the success of their various governance systems.

The initial focus of the benchmarking examination identified key performance indicators and measurements to quantify and assess the results of the organization’s daily operations. Our analysts and benchmarking specialists proceeded to identify and gather the assessment criteria of all our client’s key process information. The information was obtained from industry sources and our client’s external partners and competitors. Some of the building blocks of the metrics they sought were; Percentage of existing product/service extension projects launched on budget, Percentage of existing product/service extension projects launched on time, Average number of hours to design and develop products/services for new product/service development projects, and approximately 700 other measurable key process measures.

The action plan offered by Intone’s benchmarking examination specialists enabled our client to generate key performance predictive and prescriptive measures to address operations more effectively. The focused benchmarking enabled the development of predictive and prescriptive analytics and metrics to address the previously underperforming benchmarked areas.

The value added by Intone’s benchmarking examination include the analytical tools and knowledge gained to fully leverage and create a sustainable benchmarking effort, while concurrently developing procedures to ensure the consistent production of quality data and the ability to rank its order of importance. Intone’s innovative data analytics methodology created an internal data centre, within our client’s existing IT environment, using visualization concepts and a custom-designed data storage solution.
